  Dr. Matthew L. Burman, M.D.

Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Surgeon.

Matthew L. Burman, M.D., has been in practice in the Detroit Metropolitan area for thirty years, performing cataract, glaucoma, intraocular lens, refractive, laser, oculoplastic, and strabismus surgery. Dr. Burman was the first to perform the CK procedure in the Detroit area.

Dr. Burman has been on the faculty of both the University of Texas and the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine after completing his residency. He is also a Senior FAA Medical Examiner. He is a member of the AMA, MSMS, WCMS, MSEPS, and a Fellow of the ICS and ACES. Dr. Burman has staff membership in the St. John, Oakwood, and Henry Ford Hospital Systems, in addition to CSSC.

Dr. Burman has offices at three locations (Detroit, Bloomfield Hills, and Westland) in the Metropolitan area and he performs surgery at the NovaMed Cataract Specialty Surgical Center on Mondays.

  Dr. Nate Kleinfeldt, M.D.

Dr. Kleinfeldt

Nate Kleinfeldt, M.D., is a highly-regarded cataract and glaucoma specialist who has developed new procedures and equipment for the treatment of cataracts and glaucoma. He speaks locally and nationally about the latest surgical advances for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Kleinfeldt is a medical advisor to Allergan, Medtronic, and Endo Optiks. He performs the most cataract and glaucoma procedures in Michigan.

Dr. Kleinfeldt received his medical degree with honors from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Kresge Eye Institute, affiliated with Wayne State University School of Medicine. He then furthered his sub-specialty training with a cataract and glaucoma fellowship under the auspices of Ronald Coburn, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Kleinfeldt has earned specialized certifications for:

  • Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty
  • Endocyclophotocoagulation
  • ReSTOR® Intraocular Lens

He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology (ARVO).

In addition to cataract surgery and glaucoma management, the Coburn-Kleinfeldt Eye Clinic has vitreoretinal and oculoplastic specialists.   Dr. Steven A. Shanbom, M.D.

Steven A. Shanbom, M.D., is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in refractive and cataract surgery. He attended Wayne State University School of medicine, followed by residencies in internal medicine and ophthalmology at Siani Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Shanbom has held the rare combination of board certification in both internal medicine and ophthalmology, giving him a broader vision of comprehensive care. He has been an assistant professor at Kresge Eye Institute and Michigan State University.

Dr. Shanbom is a well-rounded surgeon who performs cataract, CK, PRK, LASIK and refractive implant surgery. In fact, Dr. Shanbom has extensive experience in refractive surgery, having performed over 10,000 vision correction procedures. While at Siani Hospital, he was involved in the FDA trials of the excimer laser used for LASIK surgery. He continues to stay at the forefront of refractive surgery by lecturing and attending seminars on the latest ophthalmology procedures; such as, custom LASIK and cataract surgery with the “New” multifocal intraocular Rezoom™ and Restor® lenses. And, Dr. Shanbom is a LASIK patient himself, experiencing excellent vision without glasses, allowing him to fully appreciate the needs and expectations of his ophthalmology patients.

  Dr. Daniel S. Zuckerbrod, M.D.

Daniel S. Zuckerbrod, M.D., M.P.H., is originally from Pennsylvania and New York. He graduated from Cornell University and New York Medical College with a combined doctorate in medicine and masters in public health degree, and then went on to complete specialist training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He is a board-certified ophthalmologic surgeon with specialist training in the care and management of a wide-range of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetes. As well, he applies his surgical expertise to assist people to become independent of glasses with techniques such as LASIK, PRK, and multifocal intraocular lens implantation. Dr. Zuckerbrod is a partner at Burman & Zuckerbrod Ophthalmology Associates and an active member of many ophthalmology and medical societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
